2007-2008 School Year

Dear Parents and Guardians;

I would like to welcome your child to my class and briefly explain what areas will be covered this year.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Course Description:  This course will include personal, social and public health, anatomy and physiology, addictive behaviors, safety and the environment, and sex education.

Materials:  1 inch three ring binder, 3 divider pages, loose-leaf paper, pencil/pen (dark ink only), red ink pen (for grading), highlighter, ream of copy paper (for class copier), Kleenex.

Grading:  Labs, worksheets, projects, notes, tests, and participation will comprise the grade.  Bonus points will be available.  Students will keep a grade sheet in the folder in which they should have their grade calculated each day.  Please check this when you need to speak to me about grades because I will refer to this source of information.

Grading Scale:   Grading is based on a point system.  Homework and class work will be given points and tests will be graded on a percentage of 100.  In order to receive credit for homework and class work, students must complete all the assignment, neatly, on time, to the best of their ability.  If a student is absent he or she will have time to make up work with no penalty.  Each student will be given one homework pass per quarter, which will allow him or her to turn in one completed assignment late for credit.  It the pass is not used then it can be turned in for bonus points at the end of the quarter.

Homework:  The student can expect homework approximately two to three times a week.  Most days, students will be given time to start homework in the class, this allows students to ask questions before having to start it on their own.  Notes will be very important for them in this class because they can use these and any other work in their notebook on the tests.

Classroom Rules:  Students must be in their seat when the tardy bell rings and prepared to work.  They must bring all needed materials.  Students are to be courteous to each other as well as to the teacher and classroom guests.  This includes raising their hand to talk and allowing only one person at a time to be out of their seat.

Consequences of Breaking Rules: First offense is a  warning, second offense lose 1-2 participation points, third offense is removal away from others, and fourth offense is removal from class with a referral.  Parents will be notified on the third tardy and a referral given on the fourth.
