2009 -2010

This year we are doing a two period block for math classes. This will give us more time to cover the material and to better help the students. We will be using a researched based text Transitional Mathematics.
MATH
COURSE CONTENT
We will be working on Developing Number Sense by reviewing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Additional course content will include factors, fractions, decimals, graphs, and some pre algebra. Problem solving will also be covered.
HOMEWORK
Homework will be REQUIRED of your student. Homework is generally assigned on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights. It should take no longer than 20 minutes. If your child is having trouble and has worked 20 minutes you may “sign off” for that assignment. All assignments are due the day after they are assigned. Late work will be accepted until Friday of that week, but will result in a lower grade.
EXTRA CREDIT
Extra credit can be anything having to do with math or anything that impacts the student’s life. It can be taken from the newspaper, a magazine, a cartoon, or a program on TV. Extra credit will be presented to the class. Your student may do 3 extra credits each nine weeks. Each extra credit is worth 1% point on top of their final grade average. Example: 87% would become a 90% moving the grade from a B to an A-.
GRADING SCALE SUPPLIES

89 – 80 = B and a roll of paper towels
