Mrs. Wiggins' Class

Week of August 24, 2009

Please make sure you have all school supplies turned in! Thank you for you help with this. Also, the parent letter, copy of our class syllabi, and a permission form for you to sign for my dossier will be sent home on Monday.

Language Arts – We will begin Unit 1 in our new curriculum, “Making Connections”. Our focus will be identifying the main idea of a text. The district provided us with workbooks for each student.

Reading – Our reading program is divided into 2 groups. The Wilson Reading Group uses the Wilson Reading Program. We will be testing students this week to see which program best suits their needs. The other group will be using the 7th grade Literature books.

Math – The Transmath program will be divided into two groups – the green group and purple group. We did some preliminary testing last week to determine the group each student would participate in. We will begin Lesson 1 on Monday and continue thru Lesson 4 this week. We will also be completing STAR MATH testing this week that is mandatory for the school, providing our classroom computers get linked to the internet this week.

Social Studies – Our curriculum this year will be based around world history, but we will be inserting information about the US and NM to keep within the guidelines of curriculum which are set by the state.

Science – We will be able to get our science books this week and will begin on Unit 1. Once again, our curriculum will be directed by the state standards.
